Bio:

Xu Liyi, born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province in August 1964, holds a bachelor’s degree. He once served as the Vice Mayor of Yuyao, Director of Ningbo Municipal Water Conservancy Bureau, Mayor of Yinzhou District, Ningbo City, Secretary of CPC Jianggan District Committee, Hangzhou; Member of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Standing Committee, Secretary of CPC Yuhang District Committee, Member of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Standing Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of Hangzhou, Acting Mayor of Wenzhou, and Secretary of CPC Wenzhou Committee. He was appointed the Deputy Secretary of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Hangzhou in April 2017. In the same year, he was also appointed President of the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships (25M) Organising Committee and Vice President and Secretary-General of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee. Mayor Xu attaches great importance to the development of sports, aiming to establish Hangzhou as a “premier destination for international sports events”. Under his leadership, Hangzhou will leverage the immediate opportunities of hosting the FINA World Swimming Championships (25M) and the Asian Games to upgrade urban infrastructure, public services, level of internationalization and civility of its people, and to promote the national fitness program in Hangzhou together with the all-round progress of Hangzhou’s social and economic development.
