Launched in 1973 by inspirational sports-lover, entrepreneur, and sports sponsorship pioneer Horst Dassler, arena was the first swimwear company to engage in textile and fluid dynamics research in a quest to develop the fastest, lightest, smoothest, and most durable products for both the competitive and recreational swimmer. It is a trait that has distinguished the company throughout its history, as it continues to define trends and set standards to this day.

Arena’s collaboration with FINA is in the capacity of official sponsor and technical partner for all the organization’s major events, including the world long and short course championships, the world junior championships, and the world masters championships. In addition, arena is also the exclusive supplier of swimwear, sportswear, swimming equipment, and training aids for all officers, staff and volunteers involved in the events.

The company is a technical sponsor and official supplier to many swimming federations including the US, Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, Czech Republic and Estonia.

Today the arena brand has a presence in 120 countries around the globe. The Company has a direct representation through wholly-owned subsidiaries in Italy, France, Germany/Austria and the USA, while also employing a network of 35 qualified business partners in over 100 countries. The Japan-based Descente Group owns and manages the brand in 11 countries in the Far East.
